Strenghts and Weaknesses Matrix

When interviewing and applying for a job, it is important to evaluate what strengths and weaknesses would apply do the positions.

As far as strengths for both the Director of Event Planning and Special Events Director, I am detail oriented which is necessary when planning functions and events. In addition to this, I am collaborative. Collaboration is necessary when working on a team and making sure everyone's opinions are heard. Another strength I have is that I am very organized. When handling a large event and lots of people, organization is extremely important to being successful.

The weaknesses I posses I am constantly working to improve. For example, I get nervous and do not excel speaking in front of a large group, however I feel that I excel and speaking in front of smaller groups and am a leader in a small group of people. In both of these positions public speaking will be an aspect of the job, which is something I am working to further improve.

Job requirement strengths

Based on my experience and education I feel that I would be a great candidate for both of these jobs. As far as experience, I am currently a social director for my sorority that includes planning events for up to 300 people. Also, a large part of organizing functions and events is following and creating a budget. Budgeting for large events takes a lot of time and negotiating in order to be able follow a budget. In addition to this, I have had experience delegating tasks which is important as a manager.

Public relations is also important to event management as well, as events have to be marketed well in order to be successful. As a current marketing student, I have had knowledge and experience in public relations and different ways to market an event or organization. Having a marketing background is beneficial for event and planning.

Event Management

Event planning management has always been something I am interested in, there are so many different types of events and ways to plan an event, so this area of a career has always excited me. For example, an event could be a high end dinner, it could be a concert, or just a casual lunch. Eventually the type of event planning I would want to be doing is corporate event planning. In addition to this, I have always had an eye for detail which in my opinion is important in event planning.

This past summer I had an internship at a marketing automation firm. While I was there I got to attend their quarterly rally. It was awesome to be apart of all the fun activities but what I enjoyed most was seeing all the planning that went behind this meeting; all four different offices (New York, Chicago, Minneapolis, Los Angeles) were communicating at once. I was so impressed by this meeting and even more impressed to learn that was on the smaller scale of events for them! Like stated earlier there are so many different types of events that as an event planner I would feel that my job would always be changing and keeping me on my toes.
